Street Networks to Social Networks: How New Media Can Bridge Kid To Community and Serve Runaway and Homeless Youth
July 27, 2011
Seattle, WA

This event has ended. Please check the event calendar for other workshops related to this topic. Thank you.

Social media can further your mission by allowing more people to understand, value and support what you do.  It can also be an invaluable tool to connect with the homeless themselves.  With easy access to computers in public libraries, virtually anyone can use the social web and/or mobile phones to communicate and serve.  In fact, 80% of homeless youth use online social networking media, according to a recent survey.

Come to this interactive clinic in which participants will be given hands-on activities coupled with mini-case study implementation examples of how advanced technology tools can: (i) raise awareness of key programs, (ii) listen, connect and build community, (iii) create exciting content to generate buzz and raise funds, and (iv) protect your agency in this ever-evolving digital world.

As there is no "one-size-fits-all" social media strategy, participants will graduate from this session with their own tactical approaches that will work best for their culture and stakeholders. Specifically, they will have outlined their individual (i) social media strategy maps, (ii) mixed-media campaign examples, and (iii) social media policies which can be implemented at their agencies.

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop for use during the clinic.

Participants will:
  • Learn how to integrate social media into your web communications plan.
  • Learn to design, implement and evaluate social media campaigns.
  • Learn tactical approaches that are essential in listening, participating, content creating, generating buzz and community building through exposure to a variety of social media tools.

Space is limited so please register soon. There is no fee for this clinic. Participants will receive verification of 6 hours of continuing education through the University Of Oklahoma College Of Continuing Education.
